Engagements

Every engagement starts with architecture, whether for a new platform or product, a rebuilt one, or a service that does not exist yet. None has started with a ticket queue. From there the work runs as a cycle: design, build, release to production, watch it run, then refine and extend on what comes back. It continues for as long as the system keeps growing.

Embedded with the team

The work happens alongside a client’s own engineers, CTO and product manager, usually on a team of fewer than ten engineers. Decisions go straight to the person who makes them, a CTO, CEO or VP, with no layer of management in between.

Some engagements come through another consultancy, with Tavaci as the architecture and engineering half of a pair while the other consultant runs project management.

Past clients include an online education provider, an eCommerce SEO company, a national home services company, a mobile retail and supply chain company, a medical technology company, and a conversational AI startup.

Who does the work

One person does not replace a team, and the claim here is narrower. The architecture role now reaches further than it used to. When the design has one owner and the gates apply to everyone’s work, the same scope needs fewer people on it.

Any engagement can mix three ways of staffing the work:

  • Tavaci building directly, with agents carrying the implementation volume

  • The client’s engineers building against Tavaci’s designs, in the usual way

  • The client’s engineers doing the same, but working agent-directed at low-level design and implementation, with Tavaci coaching them inside the gate structure

Coaching

Coaching also stands on its own, apart from any build. It is for a team that wants to run agent-directed engineering itself. Tavaci consults and teaches across the team, including architects and product managers as well as engineers, since the process starts at requirements, well before code.

Working arrangements

  • Contract engagements, full-time or part-time alongside other work
  • Remote or hybrid, and onsite for a substantial engagement
  • In person in the Seattle, WA and San Luis Obispo, CA areas
  • Staff augmentation, where the role starts at architecture
  • Contract-to-hire, where it suits both sides
